Eyelid Tumour Removal and Reconstruction – Surgery & Procedure

So after eyelid tumour removal, can the eye look and function normal? This is what we are going to discuss today. I’m Doctor Priti Udhay, an oculoplastic surgeon from DRR Face Aesthetics, Chennai.

So many swellings in the upper eyelid or the lower eyelid can be cancerous, when we remove this swelling the eyelid has to be reconstructed back to its normal appearance and function, the eye has to move with each blink and it should also cover and protect the eye comfortably. This can be done by oculoplastic surgeries, now oculoplastic surgeons are eye doctors who are trained in plastic surgery, and therefore this dual experience helps in reconstruction of these kind of eyelids. These tissues can be used in any part of the body, like lining from the mouth or the skin behind the ear, or we can even use the flaps from the areas surrounding the eye.

The reconstruction is done in such a way that it matches correctly with the other eye in shape, form and color, etc. Also the eyelid moves comfortably with each blinks and protects the eye very nicely after plastic surgery. So you will see some of the pictures of our patients who have undergone this procedure.

The tumour was successfully removed and this prevented the tumour from spreading to the rest of the body, as well as the patient can have normal looking and as well as functioning eyelid after the surgery. Thank you.
